Natalie Van Doren is a Writer/Director and Assistant Director in film & television, as well as a graduate of the Director’s Guild of America Training Program.
Most recently, Natalie has directed multiple network episodes of shows Side Hustle for Nickelodeon, and That Girl Lay Lay for Nickelodeon & Netflix, under producer Will Packer & his company Will Packer Productions.
Natalie began working in Los Angeles for Davis Entertainment while finishing up school at Colorado State University. After graduation, she became an assistant at ICM Talent Agency, where she worked with some of her favorite directors, including Francis Ford Coppola, Baz Luhrmann, Danny Boyle, Wes Craven, Luc Besson, Robert Rodriguez & Jean-Pierre Jeunet. Natalie left ICM when she was accepted into the prestigious DGA Training Program.
While working in the program, Natalie produced and directed her short film, The SharkTank Redemption, a parody of Frank Darabont’s The Shawshank Redemption. The film poked fun of life in a talent agency being much like life in a prison. The short was purchased by HBO and aired on HBO and Cinemax for 6 years. Frank Darabont asked Natalie if he could include The SharkTank Redemption on the 10 Year Anniversary DVD extras of The Shawshank Redemption. Warner Bros bought the short and the film can be seen on the film’s Blu-Ray and streaming package today.
Natalie continued directing various shorts and plays, and got her first DGA directing job on the hit TV show CSI: Miami, directing 2nd unit. Natalie directed close to 3 dozen episodes of 2nd Unit for the show. Natalie also directed Howie the Rookie, the award-winning play by Irish playwright Mark O-Rowe, in it’s LA premiere. The play received positive reviews from Variety.
Natalie has also worked as an Assistant Director on a multitude of projects including Ocean’s 11, CSI, Buffy the Vampire Slayer, The West Wing, ER, Episodes, Disjointed, The Kominsky Method for Netflix & Chuck Lorre Productions, and the Mad About You reboot for Spectrum.
Natalie has also recently finished a graphic novel, INFINITE, which she wrote and shot with her brother, Doug Van Doren. The 360-page novel was created with real photographs of actors and turned into digital art by artist Michael Metcalf.
